HOW TO DRESS FOR A FAMILY CHRISTMAS DINNER

xmas-dinner

‘The most wonderful time of the year’ is approaching at a snowballing rate.

Any minute now your phone will start ringing with Yule related invitations to eat, drink and small talk your jaw off – which can, on most occasions, be absolutely lovely.

On the other hand, there is one invite that for some reason triggers dread in many of our heads. Maybe it’s because of your mother-in-law that never misses the chance to nag about her baby’s creased pants. Maybe you’ve listened to enough of your aunt and uncle’s bickering sessions to last you a lifetime.

Yet, maybe it is the fact that your whole family will have their eyes on you at some point during the evening, evaluating everything you’ve done over the past year and, naturally, how you look …

FASHIONISTA OF THE FAMILY

Many ladies shy away of dressing up for this occasion as a family home is a casual setting with all that delicious food… That will never be you. The girl the whole family relies on for advice on anything fashion or beauty related is not about to compromise looking fab just to make room for some extra dessert under a Christmas jumper. The best way to keep your own style identity and yet adopt some of the festive aesthetics is to use some of the edgier fabrics like vegan leather in rich ruby tones or bring on the drama with a full length mesmerising gown. Creating this balance would 100% keep your family fashionista title set in stone.

CLEVER CONCEALING

Let’s face it – more often than not family Christmas dinner ends up as one large excuse to eat your bodyweight in delicious homemade cooking. When the air gets tight from every family member getting tipsy on spiked eggnog, the last thing you need is sucking up to button up your coat on the entire way home. The salvation lies within the good ol’ oversized coat. The ‘teddy’ coat trend exploded over the market and it’s easy to understand why – it is the epitome of comfort. If you, however, fear looking a bit too ‘mama bear-ish’, opt for a colour not naturally occurring on actual bear. Bright red is our absolute favourite.

FULLY FESTIVE

Season’s greetings to the glitz galore!

Why leaving all glitter for décor?

Although you are probably not considering the family Christmas dinner reunion as great fun, a foolproof spirit booster is (believe it or not) the traditional Christmas sweater.  Decking yourself in bright colours and a little sparkle can improve the mood faster than you can say “turkey”. You can even even afford to stuff yourself with some more of it, if you can sneak it past your cousins fighting over who gets its leg that is.

How do you feel about family gatherings during the holidays? Do you run for the [rum] punch or relish in companionship?

As always we’re nosy as Rudolph and would love to see your answer in the comment section!

Love,
