HOW TO DRESS FOR SUCCESS

An American costume designer and celebrated fashion icon Edith Head once said

-You can have anything you want in life if you dress for it.

The idea you can actually influence success by what you put on first thing in the morning is not a new concept. When you think about 80’s ‘power dressing’ trend, or any changes in women’s wear throughout history for that matter, it becomes clear apparel for ladies reflected their lifestyle and professional success alike.

However, in this day and age that brings us a wonderful yet daunting amount of variety it makes sense we question ourselves – what does it mean to dress for success?

Like with everything in life, the key answer lies in the balance. It is a universal truth appearances matter and the way you present yourself in the world does affect people’s impression of you. Still, the most important thing is how you see yourself and how you feel inside the clothes you are wearing.

One style choice that can never be wrong is a good, high quality suit. It’s a classic, a staple – a must have, if you will. However, you absolutely do not have to stick with the classic trio of black, brown and navy anymore.

Find a suit that will make you strut, stand tall and radiate confidence. Express your unique sense of style with an unexpected choice of colour or material, or simply spice up the work wear with a unique detail or an alternative cut.

The most important thing is to be yourself and stay true to your own aesthetics – even when the dress code is not designed for that. That will lead to confidence, which will in turn translate to success.

Dressing for success is an art in its own right. How do you master it?
